It is a non-polar solvent with some use in the manufacture of adhesives, paints and coatings, to clean and degrease, and to purify organic salts in the laboratory by trituration. It is used majorly in pharmaceutical industry. It also finds use in paint and coating additives, solvents, intermediates, plastic and rubber industries. Heptane has a slight advantage over hexane due to being a little less volatile and thus a little less hazardous.
